NGC 382 is a member of a galaxy chain, called ARP 331, at a distance of about 215 million light years. Members with NGC numbers are NGC 379, NGC 380, NGC 382, NGC 383, NGC 384, NGC 385, NGC 386, NGC 388  (see finder chart below). Other very distant galaxies are visible on this image, each of them comprising several billion stars.
